Zambia Children’s Ministry – Orphan Care

Orphan Care - Zambia's Children's Ministry

Approximately 50% of Africa’s population is 15 years and younger. Due to the Aids/HIV epidemic in Africa, numerous of these children are orphans and live with their extended families. They have suffered loss, separation from parents and siblings; facing many physical and emotional challenges.

Culturally orphans are taken care by the extended family resulting in siblings divided among different families. Families and neighbors try to overcome this problem by sharing uniforms and shoes between their children as schools have a morning and afternoon session. However, due to the high poverty level, many families favor their own children over the orphans resulting in many orphans kept at home to do chores. The level of illiteracy among orphans remains high in the rural areas.

Your support of US$20/month or US$240/year will enable a neglected orphan to attend a basic government school. This donation will provide for schooling fees, uniform, stationary, toiletries and basic food items.

With your donation, you will be provided with a profile + photo of the child together with regular updates of child’s progress.

Zambia Ministry

Pastor’s Support

The majority of spiritual leaders in Africa do not always receive a sustainable income from their congregations. Therefore, many spiritual leaders are dependant on financial donations or need to work full-time to be able to provide for their families. This makes it difficult to disciple church members and to evangelize the unsaved.

Vision: That the spiritual leader will become self-sustainable.

Mission: Through establishing self-sustainable micro-enterprises, spiritual leaders will be able to generate a liveable income to provide for their family’s basic needs. This will lead to more time spent in ministry.

Ps Bernard Sikabbenu

Ps BernardPastor Bernard and his wife, Molly, are Tonga speaking nationals and reside in the Sinazongwe district on the shores of the Kariba dam, Southern Province, Zambia. They serve the Tonga people in full-time ministry.

Pastor Bernard is the pastor of a church in the Sinazongwe district. His main ministry is children’s ministry and presents Bible Education at different schools, conducts children’s ministry meetings and trains/equips other Sunday school teachers.

Herewith possibilities to assist Ps Bernard and family to become more self-sustainable.

Banana BoatBanana Boat

Being on the shores of Kariba dam Ps Bernard owns a freezer used to buy and resell fish inland. Due to the fluctuating seasons, the fish harvest is not always sustainable when purchasing from fishermen fishing close to the shore.

However, with a banana-boat fish can be purchased from the fishermen that fish deeper in the Kariba dam where the harvest is more sustainable. From these fishermen larger and more sustainable volumes of fish can be purchased.

US$400.00 will allow Ps Bernard to purchase the necessary boat and provide one month’s salary for the two boat operators.

2nd Hand Clothing2nd Hand Clothing

Due to the locality of Sinazongwe, people need to travel far distances to be able to purchase clothing, which becomes very costly for them. In Lusaka, different types of second hand clothing are sold in large bales to vendors who then resell in their respective local areas.

With Molly’s, Ps Bernard’s wife, sowing training and experience we would like to purchase a bale of second hand clothing which she in turn can resell in the Sinazongwe area.

US$316.00 will enable Molly to purchase a bale of clothing and also includes transport from Lusaka to Sinazongwe.

Water ProjectWater Project

In Africa, the majority of people do not have access to clean and healthy water at their homes. The African women are responsible for collecting water for drinking, washing, cooking and cleaning dishes. Usually all the women of a family, regardless of age, partake in this daily routine.

Water ProjectAfter walking long distances, water can be collected from rivers or designated water points such as wells. This they do by refilling containers, from 5liters to 25liters, and then carry these filled containers on their heads back to their homes. It is a very time consuming process and causes strain on the backs of these women.

So it is also with Ps Bernard’s family a daily routine that needs to beWater Project fulfilled to have water at home. When the children are at school Molly, Ps Bernard’s wife, needs to collect water for the whole family.

US$415 will give Ps Bernard and his family access to clean water. This includes connection fees to the local council water, piping and fittings to install a tap at Ps Bernard’s home.
